HUMMER H2 service and engine?

Hi, i want to know something for a 2003 H2: On the instrument cluster it appears the sign 'check engine' most possibly indicating a service due, as a matter of fact the car is in need of service. My question is whether there is a way to switch off the 'check engine' indication without performing the service, thanks.
